Term 3 January Newsletter 2015

Dear Parents/Carers

Happy New Year to all our families - we are all set for yet another busy year.

Welcome to all the new families who have joined since our last newsletter.

Christmas and Trips

What a wonderful Christmas we have had at Summers. All the staff and children enjoyed dressing up in their Christmas jumpers and t-shirts.

We all had great fun at our parties. The pre-schoolers enjoyed a visit from the magician, Gary Seagraves, who had a real live rabbit, and of course we were all visited by the wonderful Santa Clause. (Thanks Ryan!)

The 3-5 room also performed fabulously at our Christmas nativity, which was written and produced by Karolina, and acted out so well by all the children.

The Pre-school children also went to the annual pantomime, "Beauty and the Beast" ….. Oh yes we did! It was fabulous, and all the children, staff and parent helpers had a great time.

The ante pre-school children went to Satrophere for their Christmas trip and took part in some experiments, with some children going into a massive bubble.

As per usual, Maria put on a feast that was fit for a King. The staff ate so much turkey and puddings that they we were fit to burst.

Thank you to all the parents who generously donated raffle prizes and/or gave the staff gifts. We are always very grateful for all our gifts. It's lucky we had two weeks off to get through all the wine and chocolates!

Staff

It was a sad end to 2014, as Kathryn left the 3-5 room on her new adventure to New Zealand. We have had lots of nice postcards and emails from her journey so far. She is having a great time, and after visiting many countries, she has finally arrived and is now settling down.

We are happy to welcome both Erin Barnes and Lorna Cobb to the 3-5 room. Both girls are fully qualified, and both come from another private nursery. We hope to enjoy long working relationships with both of them.

Students

Our students, Su-Anne and Rhianne continue to join us on a weekly basis. Both are progressing well in their studies and have settled well into the team.

Fees

Please accept our sincere apologies for the lateness of our invoices this month. We came back from the holidays to discover that the ceiling of the Wee Rascals nursery had collapsed due to a water leak.  Portacabins then had to be organised and brought in, and as a result this has obviously used up our time significantly for the start of the year. We appreciate many of the prompt payments that have been made recently, so many thanks.

Charity

We will be holding a management meeting in the near future to decide on our annual charity, including information on the events we will be holding.

Children in Need raised £233.58 this year so many thanks for your support.

Please also continue to support Thomas, our sponsor child from Senegal. Further details regarding Thomas can be read on our website.

Curriculum for Excellence Evening

We annually hold a Curriculum for Excellence evening, which sadly has not proven to be particularly popular in the past. The evening allows an insight into how we are educating your children and how the government fund your child whilst attending Summers Nursery.

The evening will take place on Monday, February 9th at 6.10pm in the 3-5 room. I would urge parents to come along to develop a good understanding of your child's education. The Curriculum is for 3-18 year old children, so your knowledge will be useful for many years to come. We will supply refreshments and some fun that the parents can get involved in.

Progress to the Development Plans 2014-15

We are continuing to work hard on our development plans. Staff have continued to take part in staff supervision meetings, with the next ones pre-planned for next week. It has proven to be very beneficial for the staff, encouraging a greater understanding of relevant observations, and developing our ability to track the children's individual development needs.

Training

The staff continue to take part in their personal development through studying a variety of training courses over the past term, including subjects such as Food Hygiene, Engaging families in Learning, Oh Behave, and much more.

Both Bobbie and Charmaine are continuing to study their Level 3 in Child Care.

All staff will be updated in Child Protection in February.

Weather

Please could you remember to bring your child in weather appropriate clothes. He/she will require a suitable warm and waterproof jacket, a hat, scarf and gloves for the winter weather. Please also remember that all children must have a change of shoes for inside. Strong, suitable shoes for outdoors must also be worn for outside play. We go out 'rain or shine.'

IT IS COMPULSARY TO PROVIDE INDOOR SHOES FOR YOUR CHILD.

Change of Details

You will have recently been asked to check your children's personal details forms. Any changes will be updated on the computer system and will be checked every six months thereafter. However, I would like to remind all parents that it is your responsible to inform us of any changes to your details and/or circumstances at any time.

School Registration

It is now time to register your child for school, if they are due to start in August 2015. You must contact your local primary school and they will provide you with the paperwork and information you need.

Profile Folders

It is vital that all profile folders are returned to the nursery to ensure we can continuously develop and challenge your child. Please always return them within one week after the Christmas holiday period is over. At other times of the year we would require them back after one week.

Christmas Closure for 2015

The nursery will be closing on Tuesday the 22nd of December 2015 for the Christmas holiday period, and we will re-open on Wednesday the 6th January 2016.

Kind Regards
