WEE RASCALS

APRIL NEWSLETTER TERM 4

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter! I'm sure many of you will be feeling the same as I do just now…… never want to see chocolate again! The weather has been surprisingly nice. We have even had to use the sun cream! Long may it continue J

Staff

Little Bunnies

Ainslie Gill will be going off on maternity leave as of Monday 11th May. Ainslie will reduce her hours to a Wednesday and Thursday on the run up to going off on maternity leave - this will commence on the 20th April.

Emma Davidson will be returning to work from her maternity leave on the 11th May. Emma will return to her original days of Monday, Tuesday and Thursday full days.

Kirsti McCarthy who has been covering Emma's maternity leave will change over and cover Ainslie's maternity leave. Kristi's new hours of work will be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 7:30am-6.00pm.

Cheeky Monkeys

Claire Rizza continues to enjoy her position as Room Leader, and we also welcomed back Becca Smith from her maternity leave in March. Becca has returned to her original post in the Cheeky Monkey room on a Wednesday and Friday all day. Alison, who was covering for Becca has continued with us as a relief member of staff.

Busy Bees

Gemma Gove is now in full swing in the Busy Bee room and really enjoying her role as Room Leader.

Unfortunately, Faye Glennie who started recently with us in the Busy Bee room will be transferring to our nursery in Aberdeen, as it is closer to where she lives. We will keep you posted as to who will be replacing the position as soon as we know.

Manager of Wee Rascals Too

After a long wait, we now have appointed a new manager for Wee Rascals Too across the road, Jennifer Neil. You will all have received a letter regarding her appointment – we wish her well in her new role as Manager.

General

We also have some new faces around the nursery at the minute. These girls will be doing relief work with us during College/University/School holidays. Please see our staff board to find out more information about the girls.

Staff Training

Sarah Lawson from the Little Bunnies room is progressing well with her level 2 training, and both Kirsti McCarthy (Little Bunnies) and Alice Berry (Busy Bees) have also now started their level 3 training.

Curriculum for Excellence

We had a Curriculum for Excellence evening for parents at Wee Rascals Too on the 12th of February. Not many parents attended, however those who did said they found the evening informative and they now have a clearer understanding about the funding works. Please do not hesitate to ask if you would like more information regarding the Curriculum for Excellence which we follow at the nursery for children from the age of 3 years.

Outdoor Play

As usual, the weather can still be very unpredictable! Can you please ensure your child has the appropriate clothing and footwear each day for outdoor play. The nursery will provide sun cream for the children - we use Nivea for children (50+ very high). If your child can not use this sun cream, then please can you provide the nursery with an appropriate sun cream that can be kept at nursery – thanks!

Dates for your Diary

1st June 2015– All children leaving to go to school this year will be graduating from nursery. We will be having our graduation photos taken on Monday the 1st June.

12th June 2015– Graduation will take place at the Village Hall.

16th June 2015– Annual Parents evening. All parents who wish to come along will be allocated a 10 minute time slot to come and discuss their child's progress. You will also receive a report the week prior to parents evening. If need be, we may also use Wednesday the 17th for some of the Busy Bees.

4th July 2015– Sports Day! Sports day will be held at the playing field behind Kintore School on the 4th July at 10:30-12:30 (ish) You will all receive a sponsor form prior to this - this year we are raising money for Save the Children. All donations are greatly appreciated!

We are looking for any volunteers to help out at our face painting stall - this is always the most popular stall, so the more creative hands we have the better. If you would like to help out please see myself or Suzanne.

Permission forms for all of the above along with more information will be given out nearer the time.

Eco Schools

We had our first Eco Schools meeting of 2015 on Tuesday 21st April at 10.30am.  We are making a big push for our silver award this year, so fingers crossed we are able to achieve that sooner rather than later. We now have the Rag Bag clothes bank outside the nursery, so please use this as often as you can – tell friends and family too! Having this in use will help us achieve our silver award J - we have small bags and large sacks you can use to recycle your old clothes, shoes, belts etc. just ask a member of staff if you require one.

Charities

I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone for helping us raise money for both Red Nose day and the Cyclone disaster in Vanuatu. I'm always overwhelmed at how generous you all are when it comes to raising money for such great causes. For Red Nose day, we managed to raise £134.53 - and for the Cyclone disaster, Summers Nurseries collectively managed to raise £150. The money raised for the disaster will provide hygiene kits, as well as food and water to those families most in need.

We had a 'dressing up' day on Monday 16th of February to raise money for Nirmi, our sponsor child who lives in South East Pakistan. The children looked fantastic and came to nursery dressed in a range of costumes, ranging from Ninja Turtles to Anna from Frozen. The ladies were even wearing onesies! On Tuesday the 19th of February, we also had an 'animal' day to raise money for Nirmi as well. The children took in a toy animal, and we had an 'animals' picnic with our teddies and toys. We managed to raise £52.95 between Wee Rascals and Wee Rascals Too, so thanks again for all the donations.

Policies of the Term

These are due to be changed at the beginning of May, so please keep a look out on the display board at nursery or on the website to find out what our new policies of the term are.

Uniform

Please contact myself or speak to one of the girls in the Busy Bee room if you wish to purchase a nursery tee shirt or sweat shirt. These are £8 and £9 respectively, and are for the Busy Bee children only. They are entirely optional to wear.

Kind Regards
