Term 4 News

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome to yet another busy term at Wee Rascals Too. We would firstly like to welcome all our new families to the nursery. We are looking forward to getting to know you all.

It is with great sadness that Kerrie Massie, our Assistant Manager and Little Bunnies Room Leader left the nursery on Friday 6th May. Kerrie has relocated to Falkirk, and we all wish her and David the very best of fortune in their new adventures. We look forwards to Kerrie visiting us whenever she returns to visit her family in the village of Auchterless.

Claire Rizza has been promoted to the position of Assistant Nursery Manager, effective Monday 9th May. This is the latest of a series of merit based promotions for Claire who joined us as a Nursery Assistant just over two years ago and has deservedly worked her way up the ladder.

Emma Rowell has been promoted to the position of Little Bunnies Room Leader, effective 9th May 2016. Emma joined us in June 2013 and has always demonstrated leadership potential – we look forwards to her taking advantage of this new opportunity.

We are in the process of advertising for a new Nursery Manager, and in the interim a high standard of managerial presence will be maintained in the form of myself and Nicola McKinlay.  Nicola and I are experienced Nursery Managers who have both previously held the Nursery Manager role at Wee Rascals Too. We are both looking forwards to getting to know all the current parents and children. I have been working with the team at Wee Rascals Too on Wednesdays for some time now and am looking forwards to building upon the relationships I have already established with your children.

For 2016 we have chosen to support the Sunshine Partnership who provide a free, confidential service for children up to 18 years affected by bereavement and loss throughout Aberdeen City and Shire. More information on this good cause can be found at www.sunrisepartnership.org .

Information Sharing

Please remember it is vital to share information with the staff on a daily basis to ensure that we are able where possible to tailor the care we provide to your child's particular individual needs – for example if your child has had a restless night we will know they may need more time to relax throughout the day.

Eco Schools

We have now applied for the Eco School Silver Award as we feel that we have undertaken sufficient projects and actions with the children to merit the award, including:

Promoting recycling within the nursery

Setting up our water catcher

Creating and distributing posters around the local area

Collecting plastic bottles to repair our green house

Completing our environmental review.

Kirsti has displayed the next action plan on the eco wall and has very much taken ownership of this project - Well Done Kirsti!

Parents Evening

Parents evening will be held on Thursday the 16th of June commencing at 6:15pm. A list of available time slots is displayed in each room, and you should agree a mutually convenient time from the available slots to meet with your child's key worker.

Improvement Plan

We are currently focusing on learning experiences in the garden. The children of course all love getting outdoors to run around and make use of the various toys and play equipment that are available to them in the nursery garden. During the course of outdoor play there are many constructive learning outcomes – for example when using the pedal bikes children are developing coordination, posture, gross motor skills and hand eye coordination. One particular favourite the children really enjoying playing is 'What's The Time Mr Wolf' which develops their social skills, gross motor skills and their numeracy.

Kirsti McCarthy has now completed her level 3 training . She has worked really hard, and is now a fully qualified Nursery Practitioner in the Busy Bees room.

Trips and Outings

The Busy Bees visited Stratosphere in April, where we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. Some of the highlights included having sandwiches for lunch, going inside a real bubble and of course watching the digestive system of a sheep. We were able to see the complete process which the children found fascinating.

Miss K has returned from maternity leave with Melody Bear and now visits us on a Thursday morning.

The Little Bunnies room had a visit from 'Noah's Ark' who came to do some simple music and movement activities with the children.
