WEE RASCALS

SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER 2015

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you have all had a lovely summer and managed to get some well-deserved time off! It’s a shame the weather hasn’t been very summery here! Hopefully some of you managed to jet off to somewhere nice and warm for a little while.

Staff

Sarah Lawson (Little Bunnies) has just completed her SVQ level 2 training. Sarah has been working hard to gain this qualification for the past 10 months - well done Sarah! Sarah will begin her SVQ 3 training in the next few weeks to become a fully qualified Nursery Nurse.

Suzanne, Alice and Jo are all continuing to work hard on their qualifications.

I have some very exciting news to share with you all. I am currently expecting my First Baby! It’s been a whirlwind of a year for me! My partner and I got engaged back in May after 12 years together, and then found out in July that we were expecting our first baby! We are both over the moon and can’t wait to meet baby in March 2016!!

As you all know, Lisa Montgomery (Busy Bee Room) left us this month to take a change in her career. We are currently seeking someone to fill Lisa’s position and as soon as we have found the right candidate, I will let you all know.

Charity

Sports Day

Thank you again to everyone who came along to our Sports day on the 18th July. We have now collected all sponsor money and as always I am overwhelmed with the amount we have raised for such a good cause! In total we have raised £693.45!! - and this will go up when we have the final total from Wee Rascals Too. I can never thank you all enough for your generosity when it comes to fundraising.

We received some very good feedback from our sports day evaluations! 36% of you thought the day was excellent, 47% thought it was very good and 17% thought it was good. We really appreciate your comments and always aim to take your ideas on board for next year! Here are just some of the comments made from this year’s evaluations:

What your favourite part of the day was:

“My children loved the face painting and the mum/dads/grandparents race”

“ Seeing all the parents and children together”

“ We had a great time, Thank you”

“My child’s favourite part was the bouncy castle”

“Seeing the children run and receive medals – which was a lovely, thoughtful touch”

What we would change about the day based on your comments:

Based on your comments, we have decided to have age restrictions on the Bouncy Castle, so that when the younger children have their races, then the older children would get the opportunity to get on the Bouncy Castle and vice versa. Races would be therefore be held according to a certain age group at a time, to allow for more co-ordination, which would also benefit parents with other siblings.

Charity Evening

We held our charity evening on Friday 18th September and thank all parents who attended and contributed to the evening. This year, we hosted a ladies night at the nursery, with several stalls on the night for you to browse through whilst mixing with the other parents/carers, as well as the Wee Rascals team. The evening started at 7pm, and light refreshments and drinks were served on the night, along with a raffle and tickets which were purchased. All monies raised by Wee Rascals on the night will be donated to our charity of the year which is ‘Save the Children’.

Stay and Play

Stay and Play this year will be held on week commencing the 21st September. We have now allocated Stay and Play times, and all timetables are in your child’s room. Please see a member of staff for your allocated time.

Policies of the Term

The Polices of the term are as follows:-

14. Infection Control

28. Child Observation Policy

You can find our policies in the front hallway, so please feel free to read them at any time.

Parental Questionnaires

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to fill in the questionnaires. We are really pleased to announce that from the questionnaires returned that 91% of you rated the overall quality at Wee Rascals as Excellent or Very Good.  Many parents and carers have been highly complementary about the care given to their children. Development Plan

Since the end of term 4, we have been working on our current improvement plan which is ‘Learning about our Community’. Over the summer the children have gone on walks around Kintore to find out what we have in our community. Gemma asked the boys and girls if they would like to know more about any of the local shops they saw on their walk. The children then wrote a letter to the post office, the café, the local hairdressers, the vet and the pizza shop to ask if some of the boys and girls could come visit them to find out more about what they do. The post office and the café both responded to the children and offered them the chance to come along. We were able to walk down the hill with the children to the post office and visit the café, after which we got the local bus back up the hill afterwards to return to nursery. The children really enjoyed this experience and took a particular interest in the post office. This then led to the children learning about the post office in more detail. We visited the sorting office on the local bus, where the children were able to see what happens to the parcels, as well as seeing the post vans. This has proven to be a great Improvement plan for the children, as well as staff, and we now speak about what goes on in the community - particularly when we see the post man coming each day!  Keep a look out for our new Improvement plan in the coming days!

Tempest - Photography

Tempest will be coming to the nursery on Tuesday 3rd November at 9.30am. A time slot sheet will be available in October for you to choose a time that suits you best if your child does not attend nursery on a Tuesday.

All children that attend nursery on a Tuesday will NOT need to choose a slot as the nursery staff will take them to get theirs done throughout the day. If you wish to take a change of clothes for your child to get changed into please feel free to do so.

Breakfast Club

Wee Rascals nurseries provide breakfast for all children from the age of 1 year. Breakfast club starts at 7:30 and stops at 8:15am. If you would like your child to have breakfast at nursery, can you please ensure you arrive in your child’s room before 8:15am.

Uniform

Please contact myself or speak to one of the girls in the Busy Bee room if you wish to purchase a nursery tee shirt or sweat shirt. These are £8 and £9 respectively, and are for the Busy Bee children only. They are entirely optional to wear.
