Term 3 Newsletter

WEE RASCALS

NEWSLETTER 2017 – February Term 3

Dear Parents/Carers,

Well it’s been a while since I have had to write a newsletter! I would like to start off by saying thank you to everyone for the warm welcome back. It’s been a good few weeks being back to work, and it’s been great seeing how much the children have grown and developed over the past 11 and a half months, and just as great meeting all the new children that have joined the Wee Rascals family.

Staff News

General

As some of you may have already noticed, we have a couple of pregnancies in the nursery. We would like to congratulate both Charlotte (Busy Bees) and Louise (Little Bunnies) on their exciting news. Charlotte is due to have her baby in May and Louise is due her baby in June.

Donna, the Nursery Cook will sadly be leaving us on the 3rd March. Elaine, the Kitchen Assistant from Wee Rascals Too will be taking over from Donna as of the 6th March. We would like to wish Donna all the best with her future. We look forward to having Elaine join the Wee Rascals family.

Staff Training

Chloe Muirhead (Cheeky Monkeys) has now completed her level 2 training and is awaiting her certificate. Well done Chloe!! Chloe will be due to start her level 3 very soon.

Sarah Lawson & Tyler Webster (Both Little Bunnies) are working towards their level 3.

Amber Piekarski (Busy Bee) is nearing the end of her Level 3.

Louise Brown (Little Bunnies) has also begun her level 2. We are doing all we can to support all the girls through their training process.

Indoor Shoes

It has always been the case that children have separate indoor and outdoor shoes, whether this be slippers or shoes. These are to be put on by parents on arrival to nursery.

Eco School

We are now ready to apply for our Green flag award! The girls have been very busy transforming our garden for the children. We now have in place a number stand, mark making table made out of a large wooden reel, a chalk board and homemade painting easel. As well as these items, we have a story corner, music station made from pots and pans, a stage for the boys and girls to put on a performance, a water run with a water tray at the end made from an old sink and also some wooden crates for the children to use as an obstacle course or balancing beam. We are always looking for new members to join our committee, so if you are interested, please see a member of staff for more info. We are in the process of arranging our next Eco Schools meeting. A letter will go out in due course inviting you along. We will also post the date on the Website and our Facebook page.

Charity

Thank you to everyone who donated and contributed to our Charity of the Year 2016, which went towards the Sunrise Partership, a local charity which helps children who have had significant loss or bereavement throughout Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Wee Rascals raised 903.22 and the final total for all the Summers Nurseries was 5205.16.

This year we will be supporting Barnado’s. Sponsor forms will be given out to parents, prior to Sports day, so we really appreciate all the donations that you give.

Outdoor Play

As the weather has taken a turn, can you all please ensure each child has appropriate clothing for outdoor play, as well as having a change of clothes in their bag in case it is needed. Outdoor play is a big part of our daily routine and we go outside in all weathers. We want to see the children with snow suits, hats and gloves as well as appropriate footwear.

Interactive Learning Diary

The ILD system is well under way now. It’s been great to see parent’s comments on many of the children’s files. I hope you are enjoying them as much as we are. If for any reason you do not yet have access to your child’s ILD, please come and see myself or Suzanne for your log in details. As well as being able to put your own observations on for your child, there has now been a recently added feature where parents are now able to make a comment on staff observations of your child.

Menus

We have been having some changes to our 5 weekly lunch and snack menus. The new menus are now in place and available on the unit in the hall near the office for you to have a copy if you wish. We also have the menu board located at the same place for you to see what is on offer that day. The girls will also post on Facebook what is on offer each day for you all to see.

Busy Bee Topics

Since the last newsletter, the Busy Bees have covered ‘Christmas’ and ‘Growing up’ and they are now onto ‘People who help us’. There is a topic sheet situated on the parent’s notice board, so please feel free to fill this out with any ideas. We appreciate your input.

Cheeky Monkeys Topics

Since the last newsletter, the Cheeky Monkeys have covered ‘Christmas’ and ‘The Jungle’ and have now moved onto ‘Road Safety’.

If you have any ideas for forth coming topics please let the girls know, as your input is appreciated.

Little Bunnies Topics

The Little Bunnies have covered several topics which include ‘Christmas’, ‘Burns night’, ‘Scotland’ and ‘My senses’. They are now onto ‘China’. If you have any ideas for this topic then please let the girls know. Your ideas are very much appreciated.

Busy Bees term 4 Trip

The Busy Bees are in the process of planning their term 4 trip at the minute. This will take place on Monday 27th March. They would really like to visit Satrosphere, so Gemma will give them a call and make sure they can accommodate us JOnce everything is finalised, Gemma will hand out a letter with more info as well as gain permissions for the trip.

Policies of The Term

The policies of the term will be updated at the staff meeting on the 22nd February. These will then be posted on our website for you to see. They are also located on the parent’s notice board by the main hall.

Pre-School uniform

A Summers Nursery jumper and/or T-Shirt is available for you to buy if you wish. Please ask myself or Gemma if you wish to purchase. They are 8 and 9 respectively.

Illness

We follow the NHS Grampian Guidelines for infectious diseases, so it is important to keep your child at home according to any exclusion period we give. Please let us know of any illness your child has. Information regarding specific contagious illnesses are displayed on the front door for you to read.

Please be aware that if your child has been prescribed an antibiotic, then we require he/she to stay at home for a minimum of 24 hours after the first dosage. If your child has vomiting/diarrhoea, then he/she can come back to nursery 48 hours after the last episode.

Kind Regards
